Mark Arm was born on February 21, 1962, marking the beginning of a musical journey that would span decades. As a teenager, he started playing in and fronting bands, one of his earliest being Mr. Epp and the Calculations. This band, formed with Steve Turner, would later serve as a precursor to the formation of Green River, often credited as the first "grunge" band.
Arm's time in Green River was significant, as he played alongside future members of Pearl Jam and Mother Love Bone. However, the band's trajectory was disrupted by a creative disagreement, leading to their eventual split. This impasse prompted Arm and Turner to join forces once more, this time forming Mudhoney in 1988 alongside Dan Peters and Matt Lukin.
Mudhoney would go on to become one of the first and most influential Seattle grunge bands, despite never achieving mainstream success. Instead, they made a name for themselves through appearances on various soundtracks, including PCU and Singles. The band's impact was not lost on their contemporaries, with Kurt Cobain and Pearl Jam among their many influential followers.
Fast forward to 2006, and Mudhoney continues to perform live shows and release new music, with three of the original four members still remaining in the band. Throughout their storied career, they have maintained a steadfast commitment to their unique sound, earning them a loyal following and cementing their status as a pioneering force in the grunge movement.
