Martijn Lakemeier, born in 1993, made his acting debut at the tender age of 14 in the 2010 Dutch Oscar submission, Winter in Wartime. His captivating portrayal of a young boy coming of age during World War II earned him the prestigious Golden Calf Award for Best Actor, making him the youngest winner to date. Additionally, he received the Rembrandt Award for Best Actor, a significant Dutch audience award. The film Winter in Wartime was a massive box office hit in the Netherlands, attracting nearly one million viewers, and was also selected as the Dutch entry for the Academy Awards.
The film's success transcended borders, with theatrical releases in the United States, Germany, Great Britain, and Canada. Martijn's subsequent roles included a lead in the 2009 film Lover or Loser, directed by Dave Schram, and the 2011 short film Days of Grass. Following his high school graduation, he joined the cast of the popular Dutch TV series Feuten, playing the Dutch heir to the throne during his freshman years. He also appeared in the critically acclaimed drama series The Secrets of Barslet that same year.
Martijn's filmography includes the award-winning film The Marathon, the art house film It Is All So Quiet, and the film Young. In 2014, he starred in the film Dutch Hope, which won a Golden Calf Award for Best TV Drama Series, and also appeared in the films Summer and Zurich. He played a lead role in the 2015 film Ventoux, based on the Dutch best-selling novel by Bert Wagendorp, and in the romantic comedy Yes, I Do!
In 2016, Martijn appeared in the film Ventoux, directed by Nicole van Kilsdonk, and finished shooting the French film Tout Lá-Haut. He is set to star alongside Marwan Kenzari in the feature film The East, directed by Jim Taihuttu, and is currently filming the third season of the successful TV series Dutch Hope.
