Martin Crewes, a talented performer, was born in 1968 in Barnet, London, England. At the tender age of ten, he made the bold move to Perth, Australia, where he would spend the remainder of his childhood. This decision would ultimately shape his future in the performing arts.
Martin's father, David Crewes, was a seasoned actor who had a long history of participating in various plays in both the UK and Australia. His notable credits include the iconic production of "The Homecoming" in 1968. Martin's younger sister, Amanda Crewes, is also an accomplished actress who graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 1998 with a degree in Performing Arts. She has recently concluded her stint in the Barking Gecko Theatre Company's production of "The Rodeo Kid."
The Crewes family has a rich history in the performing arts, with Martin's mother, Elizabeth, and aunt, Marie, also being actresses. For many years, the family was actively involved with Playlovers, an organization that showcases amateur talent in theater productions in Floreat, WA, Australia.
As a performing arts actor, Martin has had an illustrious career in Australian theater, with notable credits including "Barnum," "The Wizard of Oz," "Aspects of Love," "Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," and "West Side Story."
Martin's television career has also been marked by numerous appearances in popular Australian shows such as "Neighbours," "RFDS," "Phoenix," and "The Newlyweds." In 1995, he embarked on an international tour, playing the role of Lt. Joe Cable in the musical "South Pacific" in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The following year, he took on the role of Marius in the international tour of "Les Miserables," performing in Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, and Cape Town.
In 1997, Martin relocated to the UK, where he continued to hone his craft, performing in various musicals, including "The Rink" and "Pal Joey." His breakout role in the UK came when he spent two years starring as the Hispanic player and manager Luis Amor Rodriguez in the hit Sky TV series "Dream Team" (1997). This role earned him widespread recognition, particularly due to the illicit love affair between his character and the chairman's wife, Linda Block.
Martin's impressive résumé also includes his portrayal of Anthony Sullivan in the ITV mini-series "Daylight Robbery" (1999) and his performance in the Royal Variety Performance in December 2000. In 2002, he appeared in the film "Resident Evil" and returned to Australia, where he starred in three musicals: "Oh! What a Night," "Hair," and "The Man from Snowy River Arena Spectacular." His most recent performance was as Marius in a concert tour of "Les Miserables" in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland in October and November 2002.
