Marvin Pentz Gay Jr., professionally known as Marvin Gaye, was a renowned American singer and songwriter. Born on April 2, 1939, Gaye played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of Motown in the 1960s, initially as a session player and subsequently as a solo artist with a multitude of successes, earning him the nicknames "Prince of Motown" and "Prince of Soul".
