Mary Apick began her acting career as a child star in Iran, where she quickly gained popularity through her roles in television shows, feature films, and plays. One of her earliest and most notable successes was her performance in the long-running television show "Octopus," where she showcased her talent for political and satirical skits that helped to liberalize Iranian society.
As her career progressed, Mary became one of the most popular stars in Iran, starring in countless productions and earning critical acclaim for her performances. She was the first actress in the Iranian Motion Picture history to win the Moscow International Film Festival Best Actress Award for her performance in "Dead End," written and directed by Parviz Sayyad.
However, the Iranian revolution forced Mary to flee the country and find a new home in the United States. Despite this, she continued to thrive in her career, starring in critically acclaimed films such as "The Mission" and "Checkpoint," as well as featured roles in productions like the NBC miniseries "On Wings of Eagles" and the MGM release "Mind Games."
Mary's work did not go unnoticed, and she continued to expand her involvement in socially significant projects. She worked with her partner, Bob Yari, on the Academy Award-winning film "Crash," and collaborated with Mr. Sayyad on the famous play "(KHAR) The Ass," which has had over 400 productions in different cities globally.
Among many awards and accolades, Mary recently received the prestigious ARPA International Film Festival Foundation Award for her humanitarian efforts, using the theater to mirror the true voices and stories of the women of the Middle East. Theater has always been Mary's greatest passion, and in 2005, she wrote, directed, and produced the critically acclaimed play "Beneath The Veil," which was presented in many prestigious venues, including the Lincoln, Kennedy Center, and Geffen Playhouse.
Mary has also created many projects for children, including "A Fairy Tale In The Forest" and "Jewel of The Night," which gives children of Iranian expatriates a bilingual fairy tale show and an opportunity to learn about their parents' culture and homeland.
Throughout her adult life, Mary has remained fiercely committed to improving the lives of women and children, especially in the Middle East. She has worked as an advocate for clearing land mines and reducing their use, and has appeared as a spokesperson before the U.S. Congress and in all media. Mary remains vigilant and vocal in the pursuit of all freedoms.
In addition to her work in the entertainment industry, Mary has also been featured in the acclaimed book "The Green Card Stories," which won the "Best of Photojournalism Award 2012." This year, she guest-starred with Claire Danes in a recurring role in the award-winning Showtime television series "Homeland."
