Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz was born in Milan, Italy to a pair of former fashion models, who had previously walked the catwalk themselves. Growing up in the quaint town of Gudo Visconti until the age of five, Matilda's childhood was a picturesque one. Her American father, Elliston, went on to become a renowned fashion photographer, capturing the beauty of his subjects for various publications. Meanwhile, her mother, Maria, leveraged her charm to secure a position in public relations for a prominent fashion press office.
Matilda's striking features and captivating presence made her a natural in front of the camera. She began modeling at a very young age, working with numerous fashion and beauty brands. After completing her high school education in New York, she took an acting class to overcome her shyness and eventually landed a role in the Italian horror film "Azzurrina" in 2012.
Her breakthrough came when she won a part in the TV series "Crossing Lines" in 2013, followed by a role in the Italian drama "The Fifth Wheel" in the same year. To maintain a sense of stability, Matilda also pursued a degree in psychology at the Catholic University of Milan. She shared with Elle Canada in 2016 that in Italy, acting is often viewed as a joke, and people do not take it seriously. However, a trip to Los Angeles in 2014 to audition for an HBO pilot marked a turning point in her career. She realized that she could actually make her dreams a reality and dropped out of the Catholic University of Milan to attend a prestigious film school in Los Angeles.
To support herself, Matilda worked at an Italian restaurant, where she met Italian director Gabriele Muccino. Several months later, Muccino auditioned her for the film "Summertime" in 2016. In the meantime, she had also been offered a role in the big-budget horror movie "Rings" in 2017. After two screen tests, she met with the Vice President of Paramount and the executive producer before securing the lead role of Julia, a woman who finds herself at the mercy of a terrible curse that threatens to take her life in seven days.
Matilda also landed a role in "Summertime" in 2016, which began filming immediately after she completed work on "Rings" in 2017. In 2016, she starred in the music video for "Hepburn Shades" by the pop punk band The Downtown Fiction. She went on to play the lead role in Coralie Fargeat's hit film "Revenge" in 2017 and appeared in the romantic comedy "The Divorce Party" in 2019. Matilda is currently filming the TV mini-series "Ils étaient dix" in 2020 and is set to star in the sci-fi thriller "INVADERS" in 2021, playing the lead role of Joanna. She is represented by the Gersh Agency.
