As he matured, Hyson's academic pursuits took him to Skidmore College, where he majored in English, laying the foundation for a successful career beyond the wrestling ring.
However, Hyson's true calling remained in the world of professional wrestling, and he eventually traded in his teaching textbook for a wrestling singlet. In 1996, he made his debut in the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW),where he forged an unbreakable bond with fellow wrestler Balls Mahoney, together claiming the coveted Tag Team Championship title.
