Born in Providence, Rhode Island at Women and Infants Hospital, Timothy McCarthy grew up in the charming town of Rumford, Rhode Island. He attended St. Margaret's School and later La Salle Academy, laying the foundation for his future success. McCarthy's unique personality was described by The New York Times as "a John Belushi-like madman", foreshadowing his future career in comedy. After graduating from Fordham University, where he was the beloved mascot, The Ram, from 1999 to 2001, McCarthy pursued his passion for stand-up comedy. His signature red hair and beard have become iconic, making him instantly recognizable.
McCarthy's impressive career has included a series of Verizon FiOs commercials, where he portrayed the iconic Cable Guy. His television appearances include a contestant spot on the popular show Cash Cab, which aired on June 26, 2006. As a host, McCarthy has led Action Pack Wednesday nights on AMC alongside Nick Stevens, and has performed stand-up comedy on various platforms, including Just for Laughs, Live at Gotham, and John Oliver's New York Stand Up Show on Comedy Central. One of his most memorable catchphrases, "You have got some brass, son!", originated in a St. Patrick's Day commercial for Guinness.
In addition to his solo endeavors, McCarthy writes and performs with Front Page Films, a group he co-founded with Pete Holmes and Oren Brimer. The trio has created content for numerous brands, including Doritos, Crunch Fitness, CollegeHumor, and Comedy Central. Front Page's HOTEL and DOCTOR series was featured on Atom.com. McCarthy has also appeared in IFC's The Whitest Kids U' Know and alongside fellow comedian Robert Kelly, a regular on Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO.
