Mauro Borrelli is a director with a rich background in visual art, hailing from Italy. He studied classical painting at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, laying the foundation for his future success. His early career presented opportunities to collaborate with renowned filmmakers, including Francis Ford Coppola, Terry Gilliam, Gore Verbinski, and Tim Burton, on the visual elements of their films.
Borrelli's directorial debut, "La Donna Del Moro," earned the "Best Short Film" award at the Venice Film Festival. His subsequent film, "White Shoe," inspired by the life of Salvatore Ferragamo, won the Museum Short Award for "Best Short Film" and has been showcased in major European museums, with the potential for an Academy nomination.
As a visual art director, Borrelli made history by directing the world's first hyper-realistic CGI animated feature film, "Final Fantasy." Following his success in the short form feature, he wrote and directed the alien abduction sci-fi feature film "The Recall," starring Wesley Snipes and RJ Mitte. The film was shot in the large-scale format called Barco Escape and in VR format to cater to the growing audience of content consumers.
This allowed Borrelli to seamlessly integrate new technology into his creative storytelling, resulting in a unique and captivating visual experience. In 2020, he wrote and directed the action-fantasy thriller "Warhunt," starring Mickey Rourke, Robert Knepper, and Jackson Rathbone, set to be released in early 2021.
In 2022, Lionsgate released Borrelli's latest thrillers, "Mindcage," starring John Malkovich, Martin Lawrence, and Melissa Roxburgh. Throughout his career, Mauro Borrelli has consistently pushed the boundaries of storytelling, combining his passion for visual art with his innovative approach to filmmaking.
