Person Biography:
Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan, born in 1958 in Killarney, Manitoba, Canada, was destined for a life in the performing arts. At the tender age of 11, she took her first steps onto the stage, writing, directing, and acting in her own play. This early start sparked a lifelong passion for acting, which continued to flourish throughout her childhood.
As she grew older, Mavourneen's talent for acting only intensified, earning her accolades and recognition in her high school years. She went on to study theatre at the University of Victoria, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
After completing her education, Mavourneen became involved in community theatre, where she received awards for her outstanding performances in "Lovers" and "Remembrance" at the B.C. Zone Theatre Festivals. This marked the beginning of a successful career in the performing arts, with Mavourneen taking on various roles, including Shirley Valentine and Miss Marple.
However, Mavourneen's life took a dramatic turn when she married James Ryan in 1986. The couple started a white water rafting company in 1987 and welcomed two children in 1988. As she devoted herself to her family, Mavourneen put her acting career on hold, instead focusing on directing children's plays at her kids' school and co-founding a community theatre group.
Years later, Mavourneen's passion for acting reignited, and she began to take on various roles in film and television. She has since appeared in several projects, including The Pledge, When I'm Dead, Change of Pace, and Snatched From Mommy. When not on set or the stage, Mavourneen can be found enjoying the great outdoors with her husband, indulging in activities such as canoeing, hiking, and camping.
Today, Mavourneen resides in a small town in rural British Columbia, where she spends her free time creating pottery, playing guitar, singing, and tending to her garden. She is a devoted grandmother to two granddaughters and continues to pursue her love of acting, always seeking new opportunities to bring her characters to life.
