Max Lauren, a Jewish individual with a distinctive appearance, featuring a brace-faced, bespectacled, and self-identified tomboy persona, grew up in the affluent North Shore of Long Island, a setting that would later provide a treasure trove of humorous anecdotes and relatable experiences.
During her childhood, Max approached life with an air of authority, as if she were already a renowned Hollywood writer-director. She spent her formative years writing additional episodes for her favorite TV shows, which had unfortunately concluded, and directing elaborate music videos with friends and family, solidifying her passion for storytelling.
Upon graduating from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and double minors in psychology and creative writing, Max's inquisitive nature and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) drove her to pursue further education. She relocated to Southern California to complete a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production with a focus on directing from Chapman University.
Max's cinematic endeavors are characterized by a MAXimalist aesthetic, paired with earnest and thoughtful storytelling. Her films eschew genre constraints, instead focusing on crafting richly nuanced characters who reexamine fundamental aspects of their lives and challenge their deeply held beliefs.
