Maxine McNair, the last surviving parent of the four African American girls who met a devastating fate in a 1963 church bombing in Alabama. The bombing, which occurred at the historic 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, was the most deadly single attack of the civil rights movement, claiming the lives of four innocent young girls. Her 11-year-old daughter, Denise McNair, was the youngest of the victims, and her loss was felt deeply by her family and community.
