Meera Menon is a talented Indian-American director, writer, and editor who has made a significant impact in the film industry. Born and raised in a family with a strong background in filmmaking, Menon's earliest inspiration for filmmaking came from her father, Vijayan Menon, a film producer who also founded Tara Arts, an English cultural ambassador for South India.
Growing up, Menon was exposed to the world of filmmaking from a young age, and her parents encouraged her to pursue her passion for the arts. However, her father advised her to view film as a hobby, which led Menon to not take filmmaking seriously as a career until she attended Columbia University. There, she took classes taught by professional filmmakers and discovered a passion for directing.
Menon went on to receive a BA in English and Art History from Columbia and an MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Her short film, Mark in Argentina, was released in 2009, but it was her feature-length debut, Farah Goes Bang, that brought her significant recognition. The film, which explores multiple genres, won several awards, including the Nora Ephron Prize, and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2013.
In addition to her work as a director, Menon is also an editor for Larry King Now and has worked on camera and art direction for various independent projects. Her feature film, Equity, premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, and she has also written and directed several short films, including The Press Conference for Refinery29's ShatterBox Anthology.
Menon has also worked as a director on the TV series The Magicians, directing episodes in the third and fourth seasons. Her work has been recognized for its unique blend of genres and her ability to tell complex stories through film.
