Megumi Sasaki's filmmaking career began in 2008 with the direction and production of her debut feature-length documentary, Herb & Dorothy, which tells the story of renowned New York art collectors Herb and Dorothy Vogel.
The film received widespread acclaim, winning top honors at numerous international film festivals, and was subsequently released nationwide in theaters and as part of PBS's Independent Lens series.
In 2013, Sasaki completed the highly anticipated sequel, Herb & Dorothy 50x50, which chronicles the next chapter in the lives of the beloved couple. The film received a nationwide theatrical release and continues to be screened at theaters, museums, and art fairs globally.
Megumi's third feature-length documentary, A Whale of a Tale, premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and has won awards at numerous other festivals worldwide.
In addition to her filmmaking endeavors, Sasaki has also ventured into publishing with the release of her book, Okujirasama: Futatsu no seigi no monogatari, in August 2017. The book offers a behind-the-scenes look at the production of A Whale of a Tale, as well as in-depth historical and religious background information on the whaling controversy.
