Mel, a renowned international screen acting and voice coach, began her career as an actor before transitioning to theatre directing and voice coaching. She held a position in the voice department of the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company and led the voice and text department at the Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park for 12 years.
Throughout her illustrious career, Mel has directed show reels and taught at several prominent London drama colleges, including Rose Bruford College of Speech & Drama, where she served as Head of Voice. She also advised on the establishment of the MA in Screen Acting at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Additionally, Mel has worked at various institutions in the US, Zurich University of the Arts, Prague Film school, IFS in Cologne, Die Tankstelle in Berlin, and currently directs show reels for the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.
Mel's impressive film and television coaching credits date back to 1992, when she worked on the original film of The Secret Garden. She has since collaborated on around 65 major film and TV productions. Her extensive client list includes Gerard Butler, Henry Cavill, Daniel Craig, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jason Donovan, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Joel Edgerton, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Milla Jovovich, Angelina Jolie, Felicity Jones, Jet Li, Keira Knightley, Rachel McAdams, Lena Olen, Clive Owen, Stellan Skarsgård, John Turturro, Ray Winstone, Michelle Yeoh, Billy Zane, and Zhu Zhu, among many others.
Mel has authored three books: Acting for Film: Truth 24 Times a Second (Random House),A Screen Acting Workshop+ DVD (Nick Hern Books),and The Elemental Actor (Nick Hern Books),which was published in 2023.
