Mel Damski is a highly accomplished director and producer with a vast array of credits in both film and television. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has directed numerous movies and hundreds of hours of television series, ranging from the iconic M*A*S*H in 1972 to Boston Legal in 2004, and more recently, Psych in 2006 and Scorpion.
Throughout his career, Mel has received numerous accolades, including an Oscar nomination, two Emmy Award nominations, and a Christopher Award for his work on Everybody's Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure in 1989.
A graduate of the prestigious American Film Institute Center for Advanced Film Studies, Mel has also had the opportunity to share his expertise with the next generation of filmmakers, teaching at AFI, USC, and the Tisch School at NYU. In addition, he is the founder of Cascadia Film Workshops, which launched in June 2014 on the campus of Western Washington University.
Prior to his career in film and television, Mel worked as a reporter for Newsday, and he continues to write a column, If I Ran The Zoo, which was recently awarded first place by the Washington Newspaper Publisher's Association. His columns can be found on his website, IfMelRanTheZoo.com.
