Biography

Melissa Johnston, a talented and multifaceted Canadian-American actress, was fortunate enough to spend her formative years in the Detroit suburbs, surrounded by the unique cultural and socioeconomic influences that would later shape her artistic identity.

Her mother, a shrewd and ambitious Canadian business owner, played a significant role in Melissa's upbringing, instilling in her the importance of hard work, determination, and a strong sense of entrepreneurial spirit.

On the other hand, her father, a hardworking and dedicated American steel worker, provided Melissa with a grounded and practical perspective on life, emphasizing the value of a strong work ethic and the importance of staying true to one's roots.

As a result of her parents' diverse backgrounds and professions, Melissa developed a unique perspective on the world, one that was both culturally informed and deeply rooted in the values of her family.

In addition to her parents, Melissa also has a twin sister, with whom she shares a special bond and a lifelong connection.

Melissa's educational journey began with the successful completion of her secondary school studies, which ultimately led her to make the bold decision to relocate to the vibrant city of Los Angeles in order to pursue her lifelong passion for acting.

It was during that particular summer that Melissa embarked on a journey of self-discovery and artistic growth by attending the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts, a renowned institution that has been instrumental in shaping the careers of countless aspiring thespians.

Following her stint at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Melissa transferred to the esteemed American Musical and Dramatic Academy, where she went on to complete her conservatory studies in the year 2009, marking a significant milestone in her academic and professional trajectory.

Melissa's journey in the entertainment industry commenced with a series of regional theater productions and independent short films, showcasing her versatility as a performer. The summer of 2009 marked a significant milestone in her career, as she was chosen as the spokes model for Neutrogena's skiniD campaign, a prestigious endorsement deal that catapulted her to national recognition as a model. Building on the momentum generated by her commercial success, Melissa began to secure smaller roles on network television and in theatrical film releases, including the popular ABC Family series Greek and the highly anticipated Twentieth Century Fox film Water for Elephants.

The subsequent year, Melissa made significant strides in her burgeoning career, securing her initial leading role in a full-length film, portraying the character of Sue in the Asylum's production of Barely Legal, a low-budget, raunchy, and teen-oriented comedy that surprisingly garnered widespread popularity.

Despite receiving accolades for her "outstanding performance," Melissa candidly acknowledged in an interview with Matchflick.com that she had minimal time to prepare for the role, revealing that she was handed the script on the very first day of filming, leaving little room for rehearsal or preparation.

However, this unexpected success brought Melissa international recognition within the genre, and subsequently opened numerous doors for her in the realms of both acting and modeling, paving the way for future opportunities and further solidifying her position as a rising star in the entertainment industry.
