Melissa Manchester's educational journey began at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music and Arts, where she honed her skills on the piano and harpsichord. As a child, she was surrounded by music, with her father being a talented bassoon player in the New York Metropolitan Opera orchestra. In the early 1970s, Manchester pursued her passion for songwriting at the New York University School of the Arts in New York City, under the guidance of the renowned Paul Simon.
Manchester's talent and dedication earned her a spot in Simon's class, an impressive feat considering she was one of only nine accepted students out of over 100 applicants. Her early start in the music industry was marked by recording commercial jingles at just 15 years old.
Before embarking on her solo career, Manchester gained valuable experience by singing with the legendary Bette Midler and providing backing vocals for her performances. In 1982, her hard work and talent were recognized with the prestigious Best Female Vocalist of the Year award.
Manchester is married to Kevin De Remer, and her successful music career has been a testament to her perseverance and passion for the arts.
