Mena Massoud's life journey began in Cairo, Egypt, where he was born, before relocating to Markham, Ontario, Canada, where he spent his formative years.
He pursued higher education at the University of Toronto, initially enrolled in the Neuroscience program, before making a significant career shift by transferring to Ryerson University's prestigious theater program, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting.
Massoud's professional breakthrough came when he landed the lead role of "Jared Malik" in the popular mystery-drama television series "Open Heart," broadcast on ABC Spark and Teen Nick.
Following several years of appearing in notable television and film projects, Massoud secured the role of "Tarek Kassar" in the highly-anticipated series "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan."
In 2018, after an extensive global search and multiple auditions, Massoud was announced as the chosen one to play the iconic role of "Aladdin" in the Disney live-action remake of "Aladdin," directed by Guy Ritchie.
Following the massive commercial success of "Aladdin," which grossed over $1 billion at the box office, Massoud went on to star in Netflix's "The Royal Treatment," which became the #1 film worldwide for several weeks in a row in 2022.
When he's not acting, Massoud is an advocate for a healthy and active lifestyle, frequently engaging in sports like basketball, a passion he developed during his high school years, when he was a member of the Ontario Basketball Association. He also has a strong affinity for recreational horseback riding and environmental conservation.
