Mia, an Australian actress of Polish and British descent, was born and raised in Canberra, the country's capital. She is the daughter of photographers Marzena Wasikowska, of Polish origin, and John Reid, an Australian of British ancestry. Mia's family is quite extensive, consisting of her older sister, Jess, and younger brother, Kai.
At the tender age of eight, Mia's family made the bold decision to relocate to Poland for a year. This experience would undoubtedly have a lasting impact on her life and worldview. Upon their return to Australia, Mia's fascination with the performing arts began to take shape. At the age of nine, she enrolled in ballet classes, aspiring to become a professional ballerina.
Tragedy struck, however, when an injury forced Mia to reevaluate her goals. She ultimately quit ballet at the age of fourteen and redirected her attention to the world of acting. This newfound passion was sparked by her appreciation for European and Australian cinema. As she navigated her teenage years, Mia attended Canberra High School but eventually left to pursue a career in acting.
Mia's professional journey took off at the tender age of 15, when she landed the role of Lilya in the 2006 film Suburban Mayhem. Her breakthrough role, however, came when she was cast as Alice in Tim Burton's beloved 2010 film Alice in Wonderland.
