Biography

Michael's academic achievements began early, as he graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis University, a feat accomplished before his professional playwriting career took off.

As a young undergraduate, Michael was accepted into the prestigious writing master class of renowned American playwright William Gibson, creator of notable works such as The Miracle Worker and Two For The Seesaw. This educational opportunity allowed Michael to hone his craft and develop his unique voice.

Michael's talent and dedication earned him the Giddon Playwriting Award at his alma mater, a distinction he received not once, but twice. This impressive feat solidified his position as a rising star in the world of playwriting.

Within a short period after graduation, Michael had written and produced no less than 12 children's plays, as well as a musical, I Only Just Got Here Myself, which went on to have a successful Off-Off Broadway run. This show was a testament to Michael's versatility and creative range, as he not only wrote the book, lyrics, and music but also co-produced the production.

Throughout his career, Michael has continued to write, publish, and produce numerous plays and musicals, earning several Dramalogue awards and recognition in the respected anthology, West Coast Playwrights. His work has been performed on both the East and West Coasts, showcasing his ability to connect with audiences across the country.

In addition to his work in playwriting, Michael has also ventured into screenwriting, selling or optioning five screenplays, including the award-winning romantic thriller, The Seventh Coin. This film received critical acclaim, placing first at both the Houston and Philadelphia International Film Festivals.

Michael's creative endeavors have not been limited to the world of film and theater. He has also written for network TV and the funny papers, penning the celebrated comic strip, Walt Kelly's Pogo, in collaboration with Walt's daughter, who provided the illustrations.

Furthermore, Michael has authored a regular column in an LA classified periodical, tackling thought-provoking topics such as "Do Fish Itch?" and "How To Pronounce Schenectady." This eclectic mix of subjects showcases Michael's versatility and ability to engage with a wide range of audiences.

In his role as script analyst for Orbit Entertainment at Paramount, Michael identified 12 essential elements common to all successful films, regardless of genre. This insight into the filmmaking process has helped him develop a keen understanding of what makes a movie successful.
