Michael Savoie, a renowned Cinematographer, boasts an impressive repertoire of television documentaries, expertly capturing footage on 16mm and 35 mm film, as well as various electronic formats, including High Definition, Beta, and DV, for global broadcasters.
As a prominent figure in the independent television and film production community, both in Canada and internationally, Michael's career spans multiple decades.
Michael's journey began when he was invited to join The Journal, the CBC's flagship news and current affairs program, in 1981. For eight years, he traveled the world, shooting long-form television documentaries that showcased his exceptional skill and dedication.
In 1989, Michael transitioned to the Film Production department of the CBC, where he primarily focused on current affairs documentaries. Throughout this period, he remained active in the independent film community, serving as Director of Photography on several multi-award-winning films, including Born in Africa (CBC, PBS),Romeo and Juliet in Sarajevo (CBC, PBS),Murder on Abortion Row (CBC, PBS),and Extraordinary People (CBC).
Michael's extensive experience also extends to producing, as he was the producer of the film Life and Times - Moe Norman (CBC).
In addition to his professional endeavors, Michael has shared his expertise by instructing courses at Sheridan College, Ontario. In 2006, he taught the Advanced Camera and Lighting Course in High Definition capture, as well as the 3rd Year Camera and Lighting course in the Media Arts Program.
As a testament to his dedication and achievements, Michael is a Full Member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.
