Miguel Picazo de Dios, a Spanish filmmaker of great renown, entered this world on March 27, 1927, in the picturesque town of Cazorla, Jaén, Spain. As a young lad, he spent his formative years in Guadalajara, where his innate curiosity and creative spark began to take shape. Despite his parents' wishes for him to pursue a more conventional career, Picazo's true calling lay in the world of filmmaking. He therefore made the bold decision to follow his heart, enrolling in Spain's prestigious national film school, the Instituto de investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematográficas. After completing his studies, he emerged as a graduate in the esteemed field of film direction in 1960.
After completing his education, Picazo embarked on a teaching career at the prestigious Escuela Oficial de Cine, where he gradually built a reputation as a talented educator. This esteemed institution provided him with the ideal platform to hone his skills and eventually seize the opportunity to helm his inaugural feature film, "La tía Tula", in 1964.
The director's subsequent film, "Oscuros sueños de agosto", released in 1967, was plagued by censorship cuts and the tragic passing of its producer, the illustrious Cesáreo González, thereby rendering commercial distribution of the film a formidable challenge.
Cesáreo González, a renowned producer, left an indelible mark on the film industry before his untimely demise.
Picazo's second film, despite its initial promise, was ultimately beset by a multitude of obstacles, including censorship cuts and the loss of its producer, thereby rendering it a commercial failure.
The disappointment of this film led to a nine-year hiatus from filmmaking for Picazo, a period marked by creative stagnation and a reevaluation of his artistic vision.
