Mikayla, a talented American actress and activist, hails from San Diego, but was raised in Norfolk, Virginia by two United States Navy veterans. With a passion for changing the landscape of Black femme representation in media, Mikayla's career has been marked by numerous accolades and achievements.
As part of the Tony Award-winning team at the Broadway Advocacy Coalition, Mikayla has made a name for herself in theatre, television, and film. Her breakthrough role was as the eldest Williams sister, Yetunde Price, in the Academy Award-winning film King Richard. This performance earned her two NAACP Awards, solidifying her status as a rising star.
Mikayla's impressive resume also includes leading roles in two globally acclaimed short films, Dear Mama (SXSW) and Pure (HBOMax). She has worked extensively in the theatre world, performing at esteemed institutions such as the Signature Theatre, the National Black Theatre, and more.
Beyond her acting career, Mikayla remains committed to her community. As an Artist Ambassador for the NYCLU, she uses her platform to advocate for social justice. She is also a facilitator and staff member of the Broadway Advocacy Coalition, which received the 2020 Special Tony Award for its efforts to combat institutional racism in the theatre industry.
Mikayla has been instrumental in launching various forums and initiatives, including Broadway for Black Lives Matter, The Miseducation, And Still I Write: A Workshop Dedicated to Black Girls, Reimagining Equitable Productions, Group Play, and the Arts in Action Festival.
Mikayla holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she also minored in pre-nursing and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies.
