Mike Africa, Jr. is a renowned member of The MOVE Organization and the Black Philly Radical Collective, utilizing his remarkable life experiences to inspire others as a motivational resilience speaker. His captivating stage performances, which seamlessly blend music with his orations, convey his powerful "Never Give Up" message to diverse audiences.
Born in a Philadelphia prison following a police raid on his family's home, Mike's early life was marked by adversity. He was taken from his mother and placed in an orphanage, where he suffered physical and mental abuse for 11 days before being rescued by his aunt. The traumatic experiences continued as a six-year-old, when he witnessed the devastating aftermath of a police bomb that killed his uncle, cousin, and nine family members, including five children he had shared an orphanage with.
At the age of 13, Mike began using his music as a platform to raise awareness about his experiences and fight for justice for his family and others. Throughout his life, he has shared the stage with prominent activists and celebrities, including Marc Lamont Hill, Tarana Burke, Ramona Africa, Dead Prez, Danny Glover, Michael Franti, Public Enemy, and Rage Against the Machine, addressing pressing issues such as mass incarceration, police brutality, climate change, and more.
In May 2019, Mike embarked on a new venture, establishing the "Mike Africa Junior Information Company" (MAJIC),a multi-faceted entertainment brand that hosts educational entertainment in music, podcast, documentaries, and more. Through MAJIC, Mike aims to share his and his family's remarkable story, inspiring others to persevere in the face of adversity and strive for a more just and equitable world.
