Biography

Mikhail Yurievich Segal, a Russian filmmaker, clipmaker, writer, scriptwriter, editor, and composer, was born on January 3, 1974, in Orel. He is renowned for adapting his own prose into films and gaining a reputation as an "anti-pop" clipmaker.

Segal studied at the director's faculty of the Film Institute VGIK and created music clips for various groups, including Bi-2, Spleen, Nogu Svelo!, Nochnye Snaipery, Kasta, and Mashina Vremeni. He has published two collections of prose and has written novels for the Russian Pioneer magazine.

In 2006, Segal presented his first full-length film, "Franz+Polina," at the XXVIII Moscow International Film Festival, which received recognition at numerous Russian and international festivals, including those in Germany, France, Poland, Canada, China, and other countries.

In 2010, the "AST" publishing house released Segal's first book of prose, "Youth," containing a story of the same name and a collection of short novels. In 2011, he shot a short film, "Fasteners Solutions," based on one of his novels, which won the short-film nomination at the "Kinotavr" Film Festival.

That same summer, Segal shot three other novels and presented a full-length movie, "Short Stories," at the 2012 "Kinotavr" Film Festival, which gained widespread fame. In 2014, he presented his third full-length movie, "A Film About Alexeev." In 2018, the movie "Elephants Can Play Football" and the book "Handwriting" were released.

In 2020, Segal's film "Deeper!" was a participant of the Sochi Open Russian Film Festival "Kinotavr."
