Miko Weaver, a highly acclaimed American guitarist, has garnered widespread recognition for his remarkable collaboration with the iconic musician Prince. His journey to prominence began when he caught the attention of the legendary artist while performing with Sheila E.'s band, where he, along with other band members, joined forces with The Revolution in the studio to record an impromptu jam session of the song "I Would Die 4 U". Prince handpicked Weaver to play guitar for his brief-lived R&B ensemble, The Family, prior to its dissolution. Following the demise of The Family, several of its members, including Weaver, were assimilated into The Revolution and took part in the creation of the groundbreaking Parade album, as well as the subsequent tour, which would ultimately mark the end of The Revolution's tenure.
The band, previously known for its dynamic lineup, underwent a series of changes in the year 1989, marking the conclusion of the Lovesexy World Tour. As a result of these shifts, the talented keyboardist and backing vocalist, Eric Leeds Weaver, was retained for the Nude Tour of 1990, making a notable appearance in the Graffiti Bridge film, a visual representation of Prince's artistic expression.
Following these ventures, Weaver ultimately departed Prince's band, bringing an end to his tenure as a key member of the musical ensemble. Meanwhile, Doctor Fink, a long-time stalwart of the group, also bid farewell to the band at this time, leaving a void that would need to be filled.
In the aftermath of these departures, Prince's band underwent a transformation, with new members being brought on board to fill the gaps left by Weaver and Fink. Once the lineup had stabilized, the band was officially rebranded as The New Power Generation, marking the beginning of a new era in Prince's musical journey.
Noted musician and guitarist, Weaver, embarked on a unique collaboration with renowned actor, Eddie Murphy, providing him with expert guitar lessons. This creative partnership culminated in the formation of a band that would eventually take the stage at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival.
Following this endeavour, Weaver relocated to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where he spent a couple of years soaking up the local music scene. During this time, he regularly performed impromptu jams in small, intimate clubs throughout the city. His passion for music led him to record some tracks in a Leiden-based recording studio, accompanied by a talented group of local musicians.
One of the songs recorded during this period, "Crazy with sex," showcased Weaver's rap skills, blending styles reminiscent of The Time and Parade. The track's unique fusion of genres demonstrated Weaver's versatility as a musician.
In addition to his studio work, Weaver also gave a live concert at Rotown in Rotterdam, which drew a crowd of approximately 200 enthusiastic music lovers. Although the recorded songs and the concert itself were never officially released, they remain a testament to Weaver's dedication to his craft and his ability to connect with audiences.
