Milena Canonero, a renowned costume designer, hails from Genoa, Italy, where she initially pursued her passion for design and costume studies before relocating to England to further her education.
Canonero's illustrious film career began with the esteemed director Stanley Kubrick, with whom she collaborated on three notable projects: the iconic 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange", the 1975 period drama "Barry Lyndon", and the 1980 psychological horror film "The Shining". Her work on "Barry Lyndon" earned her her first Academy Award.
Throughout her illustrious career, Canonero has worked with a diverse range of acclaimed directors, including Alan Parker, Hugh Hudson, Francis F. Coppola, Sydney Pollock, Louis Malle, Warren Beatty, Julie Taymor, Roman Polanski, and Manoel De Oliveira, among others.
Some of her most notable projects include the 1978 drama "Midnight Express", the 1981 historical sports drama "Chariots of Fire", which earned her her second Academy Award, the 1984 crime drama "The Cotton Club", the 1990 drama "Godfather III", the 1985 epic romance "Out of Africa", the 1992 drama "Damage", the 1990 crime comedy "Dick Tracy", the 1998 comedy-drama "Bulworth", the 1999 Shakespearean adaptation "Titus", the 2011 dark comedy "Carnage", and the 2006 romantic drama "Belle Toujours".
