Mitch Vogel was born on January 17, 1956, in the Los Angeles area. At the tender age of 12, he made his film debut in the popular comedy "Yours, Mine and Ours" (1968) as one of Lucille Ball's brood. His youthful charm and unassuming demeanor must have made a lasting impression, as he was soon catapulted to stardom.
The following year, Vogel reached the pinnacle of his film career with the critically acclaimed "The Reivers" (1969),an adaptation of William Faulkner's coming-of-age novel. He played the role of Lucius, earning a Golden Globe nomination alongside Steve McQueen. This success marked the beginning of Vogel's meteoric rise to fame.
As a popular face on TV, Vogel joined the classic western series "Bonanza" (1959) in 1970, playing the role of Jamie Hunter (later Cartwright),an orphan taken in by the Cartwright men and later adopted. The show's producers felt that Vogel's youthful appearance was a breath of fresh air, as Michael Landon, who played patriarch Ben, was getting a bit long in the tooth to be receiving fatherly guidance.
Vogel's stint on "Bonanza" lasted for two years, during which he forged a lasting friendship with Michael Landon. He went on to appear in a few episodes of Landon's "Little House on the Prairie" (1974).
Disney also took notice of Vogel's wholesome appeal, casting him in lead roles in "Menace on the Mountain" (1970) and "The Boy from Dead Man's Bayou" (1971). He continued to appear in a range of TV shows, including "Here Come the Brides" (1968),"Gunsmoke" (1955),and others.
As he entered adulthood, Vogel made the decision to step away from the limelight, choosing to focus on a quieter life. He co-starred with Patrick Wayne in the backwoods action movie "Texas Detour" (1978),marking his final on-screen appearance.
Today, Vogel lives in the Southern California area with his wife and two daughters. He continues to pursue his passions, directing and appearing in church plays, singing in a rock band, and attending occasional "Bonanza" conventions and related events.
