Biography

Monty Miranda is a multifaceted creative professional, excelling as a director, writer, and producer. Born at Hahn Air Base, Germany, he began his post-high school education at the Air Force Academy, but after six months, he made the bold decision to resign and enroll in the University of Colorado to pursue his passion for filmmaking and journalism.

Miranda's journey in the film industry started at a young age, when he used his family's Super 8 mm movie camera at the age of eight, sparking his interest in filmmaking. He went on to found Incite Films, a Denver-based production company, which he used to direct hundreds of national television commercials for various clients, including McDonald's and TIVO.

In addition to commercials, Incite Films created the first national video game television series, Twitch, which ran for two seasons and was directed by Miranda himself. His feature film directorial debut, Skills Like This, won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the SXSW Film Festival and received critical acclaim, earning "Best of the Fest" honors at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize for Best American Feature at the Jacksonville Film Festival, and a Free Spirit Award Nomination at the Warsaw International Film Festival.

The film's theatrical release received positive reviews from The New York Times, SALON, and Variety, with many praising Miranda's "eye-catching direction," "cheerfully anarchic" style, and "artfully directed" storytelling. Skills Like This was released internationally, available on-demand, DVD, digital, and on the premium cable network Starz.

Throughout his career, Miranda has had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of artists, including Palma Violets, John Meyer, Steve Jordan, New Order, Matthew Sweet, and Devotchka, as well as actors and professional athletes such as Spike Lee, Daryl Hannah, and Tony Hawk.

Miranda's award-winning work has been recognized by several prestigious organizations, including the Cannes LIONS, the CLIO's, the Effies, the Addy's, and the BDA's. His innovative political spots have been featured in national press outlets, including CNN, the LA Times, and the Washington Post, and were credited with contributing to a landslide upset victory by political neophyte John Hickenlooper, who won the office by the largest margin in history.

In addition to his work in commercials and feature films, Miranda has also directed the thriller The Insomniac, starring Danny Trejo and John Heard, and the 3D film American Mustang.
