Murphy Cross, a renowned producer, director, and co-creator, is the mastermind behind the Tony Award-winning "Jay Johnson: The Two and Only". Born on June 22, 1950, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, Cross began her journey in the world of dance, studying under the tutelage of Bobbi Smith and later graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
Cross's impressive stage career took off in the 1970s and 1980s, with notable performances in Broadway productions such as "Bubbling Brown Sugar", "Pal Joey", "Division Street", and the original production of "A Chorus Line". She also co-starred with the talented Lee Remick in "Torn Between Two Lovers" and made guest appearances on various television shows, including "Cheers" (1982),"Night Court" (1984),and a memorable two-part episode of "Taxi" (1978),where she played Louie's blind date.
In addition to her stage work, Cross has made a name for herself in film, with notable roles in "Annie" (1982),"Perfect" (1985),and "Victim of Love" (1991). Her extensive choreographic credits include TV shows such as "Roseanne" (1988),"It's Garry Shandling's Show" (1986),"Howie Mandel's Summer Special", and "Deadwood" (2004).
As a director and choreographer, Cross has worked on numerous theatrical productions across the country. Her partnership with Tony Award-winning WetRock Entertainment has allowed her to develop and produce theatrical events for stage and screen that inspire and captivate audiences.
In recent years, Cross has continued to stay active in the entertainment industry, appearing in the Christmas 2015 episode of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" (2015) and "Funny Or Die's 'National Park Dating Site'". She is also a proud alum of the 2016 UCB class.
