Mustafa Altioklar was born in 1958, and his journey in the film industry began in 1989 with the creation of short films. His impressive debut as a feature film director came in 1992 with the film "Balcony", which earned him the prestigious "Best New Coming Director" award at the Ankara Film Festival. This recognition catapulted Altioklar to the forefront of the Turkish film industry, and his subsequent film "Istanbul Under My Wings" (1995) injected new life into the Turkish Cinema, which had been struggling to regain its former glory.
The film's success marked a turning point in Turkish Cinema's history, as it rekindled the audience's interest in the industry. Altioklar's remarkable work continued with his next film, "Kolera Street" (1997),solidifying his reputation as a talented director. One of his most distinctive traits is his use of locations as characters in his films, which became particularly evident in his fourth feature, "The Elevator" (1999),and his fifth, "The Bathroom" (2005).
In "He is in the Army now" (2002),Altioklar showcased his exceptional skill in directing ensemble casts and parallel storylines, which was met with widespread acclaim. His most recent film, "Shattered Soul" (2005),made history as the first psychological thriller in Turkish Cinema and earned a "Bronze Gryphone" award at the 2006 International St. Petersburg Film Festival.
Throughout his career, Altioklar has demonstrated his versatility as a writer, penning the scripts for all his short and feature films.
