Alexis Rene Garcia, professionally known as Naheem Garcia, has had a remarkable thirty-year career as an actor and theatre educator. Born in Boston, Naheem's early life was marked by a significant move to the city from Cuba with his mother, grandmother, and aunt in 1968. As a result, he is proudly bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish fluently. Naheem's deep, mellifluous voice has also become a distinctive characteristic of his.
Naheem's formal training in theater arts took place at the New African Company, where he has held the esteemed position of Distinguished Artist-In-Residence since 2004. Throughout his career, Naheem has been a teaching artist and a member of the Huntington Theatre Company's Education Department for nearly three decades. He has also served as the Founder and lead teaching Artist for NG edutainment, an Arts/Education Program based in Boston, Massachusetts.
In addition to his work with NG edutainment, Naheem has been a member of the Boston Police Department's youth program, Acting Up With the 5-0, and has taught workshops for the Boston Police Department's youth program. Furthermore, he has held the position of adjunct professor at Salva Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island.
Naheem is a long-time member of AFTRA-SAG, New England, and has been involved with various other organizations, including the Oversoul Theatre Collective, where he serves as the Artistic Director, and Song Keepers, LTD, where he is a member of the Board of Directors.
Throughout his career, Naheem has received numerous accolades, including the Brown Sugar Culture Excellence 2021, the State Street-El Planeta Powermeter 100 of the Most Influential Latinx in 2014, the OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center-Sojourner Truth Award in 2007, and the Sojourner Truth Award in 2017. Naheem's work has been recognized for its excellence, and he has represented the Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation for NeighborWorks America and the Community Leadership Institute in Los Angeles, California in 2017.
Naheem completed the Aesthetic Education Immersion program with the Lincoln Center Summer Forum at Juilliard in New York, New York in 2017. Despite his many accomplishments, Naheem continues to be driven by his mission to represent and encourage youth and audiences through his work as an actor and theatre educator.
