Nan Kinney, a trailblazing figure in the world of lesbian pornography, has made a lasting impact as the president and producer of Fatale Media, as well as one of the founding publishers of the groundbreaking On Our Backs magazine.
Born in Austin, Minnesota, Kinney's fascination with the world of S/M led her to relocate to San Francisco in the early 1980s. Upon discovering the lack of lesbian sexual imagery created by and for the lesbian community, Kinney, along with her partners Deborah Sundahl and Susie Bright, took the initiative to fill this void.
In June 1984, the trio published the inaugural issue of On Our Backs, a magazine that would go on to become a benchmark for lesbian sexual expression. The magazine's success paved the way for Kinney and Sundahl to venture into the world of video production.
In January 1985, they released Private Pleasures and Shadows, two videos that revolutionized the industry by featuring real-life lesbian couples and presenting explicit footage created specifically for the lesbian community.
