Nancy Evelyn Andrews is a multifaceted artist who creates films, drawings, props, and objects that blend storytelling, documentary, animation, puppetry, and research in innovative hybrid forms.
Her artistic practice is characterized by the synthesis of characters and narratives from diverse sources, including history, movies, educational materials, and autobiography.
Throughout her career, Nancy has received numerous grants and fellowships, including the LEF New England, Moving Image Fund, John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, Maine Arts Commission Artist Fellowship, Illinois Arts Council Fellowship, Roger Brown Residency, Faculty Enrichment Grant, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art, James Nelson Raymond Fellowship, Franklin Furnace Fund, Maryland State Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, ArtMatters, Inc., Yellow Springs Residency, Mayor's Advisory Committee on Art and Culture, Baltimore, and National Endowment for the Arts Regional Grant.
Nancy's work has been presented by prominent institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, Anthology Film Archives, REDCAT Los Angeles, Pacific Film Archive, Gene Siskel Film Center, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Flaherty Seminar, Maine International Film Festival, NovaCinema Bioscoop, Brussels, Jerusalem Film Festival, and Taiwan International Animation Festival, among others.
Nancy holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she graduated in 1995, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, which she earned in 1983.
Currently, Nancy is a faculty member at the College of the Atlantic, where she teaches video making, animation, time-based arts, and film studies.
