On a fateful summer day, July 18, 2019, a calamitous blaze erupted within the primary studio of Kyoto Animation, resulting in the heart-wrenching loss of 36 of Yamada's colleagues, with an additional 33 individuals sustaining injuries. Miraculously, Yamada herself escaped the inferno unscathed.
In the aftermath of this traumatic event, Yamada made the decision to part ways with Kyoto Animation and embark on a new creative journey. In 2020, she joined the esteemed animation studio Science SARU, where she went on to helm the highly acclaimed 2021 film, The Heike Story.
