Nedra Volz, a charming character actress, was born in 1908 in Iowa to vaudeville parents who thrust her onto the stage as "Baby Nedra" in tent shows and similar venues. She began her career as a band singer and radio performer, but after marrying and raising two children, she took a hiatus from the entertainment industry. However, her passion for performing never fully disappeared, and she began performing again in community theater shows in the 1950s.
As she entered her 60s, Volz decided to pursue professional acting roles, making her film debut at the age of 65 in the 1973 movie "Your Three Minutes Are Up." She quickly gained a reputation for her light comedic timing and went on to appear in numerous films and television shows, often playing feisty, elderly characters.
Volz's breakout role came when she was cast as the resident housekeeper on the popular sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" in the late 1970s. She stayed on the show for two seasons before being replaced by Mary Jo Catlett. During her time on "Diff'rent Strokes," Volz also appeared as a recurring character on the TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard" and had a recurring role on the series "Filthy Rich."
In addition to her work on TV shows, Volz appeared in several films, including "Moving Violations," "Lust in the Dust," "Earth Girls Are Easy," and "Mortuary Academy." She continued to work in the entertainment industry until her death in 2003 at the age of 94.
