Biography

Ngô Đình Diệm, a renowned South Vietnamese statesman, emerged onto the political scene on January 3, 1901. He would go on to occupy the prestigious position of prime minister of the State of Vietnam from 1954 to 1955, leaving an indelible mark on the country's early years of independence.

Subsequently, Diệm rose to even greater heights, becoming the inaugural president of the newly formed Republic of Vietnam in 1955. This marked the beginning of a tumultuous yet pivotal era in Vietnamese history, during which Diệm would exercise his authority until his capture and tragic assassination in the midst of a military coup on November 2, 1963.
