Nick Canfield, an award-winning Director and Cinematographer hailing from New York City, has built a illustrious career in the film industry. His professional journey began as a camera assistant to the renowned documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, where he honed his skills in an intimate vérité style and developed expertise as a cinematographer and archivist for Maysles Films.
Canfield's debut feature film, the music documentary The Reverend, premiered on The Criterion Channel and was distributed theatrically by Factory 25. This critically acclaimed film won the Audience Award at DOC NYC and the Best Domestic Feature award at Thin Line Festival.
Throughout his career, Nick has had the privilege of working on camera teams for a diverse range of projects, allowing him to learn from a variety of subjects and filmmakers. His cinematography can be seen in numerous documentaries, including the New York Film Festival premiere Iris, distributed by Magnolia Pictures; The Fifty Year Argument, directed by Martin Scorsese and broadcast on HBO; Born to Fly, which premiered at South by Southwest; In Transit, which received a Special Jury Mention at Tribeca; Quitting Time, which premiered at True/False; and Making a Murderer, a Netflix original series.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Nick is an active member of the Documentary Cinematographer's Alliance and serves on the board of the Maysles Documentary Center. He was recognized as one of DOC NYC's 40 Filmmakers Under 40 in 2022 and served as a member of their Short Films Jury in 2023.
Most recently, Canfield's short documentary My Back Pages premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival in 2024 and was selected for the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.
