Nico Birnbaum, a talented actor from Kiel, Germany, has had a remarkable journey that has taken him from his hometown to the sun-kissed south of Europe. Despite being an actor from the north, he was drawn to the more Mediterranean region, where he pursued his passion for literature and philosophy at the University of Aix-en-Provence in France. During his time in France, he wrote part of his thesis on the renowned author Franz Kafka in Florence, Italy, and also worked as a translator and German teacher in Rome.
Birnbaum's academic pursuits eventually led him to the Florentine film school "Scuola Nazionale di Cinema Indipendente", where he gained his first professional acting experience. He acted in numerous short films and landed his first feature film role in "Reality News" by Salvatore Vitiello. After completing his PhD with summa cum laude in 2013, he decided to leave academia behind and pursue his dream of becoming a professional actor.
Since then, Birnbaum has appeared in several German TV-series, including "Heldt", "Die Spezialisten - Im Namen der Opfer", and "SOKO Wismar". He has also taken on supporting roles in "Babylon Berlin" and "Auris - Die Frequenz des Todes", as well as playing the lead as a drag queen in "Nihat - Alles auf Anfang". Furthermore, he has had leading parts in the feature films "Furioso" alongside Jan Josef Liefers and Katharina Thalbach, and "Operation Mincemeat" by John Madden, where he portrayed the role of Alexis von Roenne.
Birnbaum's recent projects include working with Thomas Kail in the historical miniseries "We Were The Lucky Ones" alongside Logan Lerman and Joey King, which premiered on Hulu in March 2024. In the same year, he appeared in the Egyptian feature film "Crows" alongside Amr Saad, the Spanish miniseries "Ena - La Reina Victoria Eugenia" by Estel Díaz, and alongside James McAvoy in the feature film "Control" by Robert Schwentke.
