Nikola Tanhofer, a multifaceted film professional, was born on December 25, 1926, and passed away on November 24, 1998. His impressive career spanned multiple roles, including film director, screenwriter, and cinematographer.

Tanhofer's directorial debut, "It Was Not in Vain," earned recognition at the 7th Berlin International Film Festival. His most acclaimed film, "H-8..." (1958),garnered a prestigious Golden Arena award at the Pula Film Festival.

Following two less successful endeavors, the psychological war drama "Osma vrata" (1959) and the comedy "Sreća dolazi u 9" (1961),Tanhofer directed two films that showcased his growth as a filmmaker, the fantastical "Dvostruki obruč" (1963) and the critically acclaimed "Svanuće" (1964).

After helming the feature film "Bablje ljeto" (1970),Tanhofer dedicated himself to teaching at the Department for Film and Television Cinematography, which he founded in 1969 at the Academy For Theater, Film And Television in Zagreb, Croatia.
