Olallo Rubio's life journey began in the vibrant cities of San Diego and Mexico City, where he developed a passion for the media industry. At the tender age of 19, in 1995, he embarked on his professional career as a DJ/host for Radioactivo 98.5 FM, Mexico's leading rock radio station at the time. This marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that would take him to the forefront of Mexico's media landscape.
As he rose through the ranks, Olallo became the Managing Director of the station in 2002. Throughout his radio years, he fearlessly advocated for freedom of speech, challenging government and corporate censorship, which were rampant in the Mexican media landscape. His unwavering commitment to this cause earned him a reputation as a courageous and dedicated media professional.
In 2007, Olallo ventured into filmmaking with the documentary "So, What's Your Price?", which premiered at various prestigious film festivals, including Central Park in New York City, The Latino Film Festival in San Francisco, The Havana Film Festival, and The Guadalajara International Film Festival. This was just the beginning of his impressive filmography, which would go on to include three more critically acclaimed films: the surreal, psychedelic, existential feature "This is Not a Movie", the rockumentary "Gimme the Power", focused on Mexico's most controversial rock band "Molotov", and "Ilusión Nacional", a documentary that explores the intricate relationship between football, politics, and history.
Fast-forward to 2018, Olallo began working on a documentary titled "¿Por Qué La Vida es Así?", based on the popular podcast of the same name, available on the Convoy Network platform. The film's production was made possible through two successful crowdfunding campaigns, and it is set to be released for free in 2021.
