Oliver Martin "Ollie" Johnston was an American animator born in 1912 in Palo Alto, California. His father, Oliver Johnston, was a professor at Stanford University, where the younger Johnston attended college. During his college years, he befriended Frank Thomas, a fellow student who would later become a renowned animator.
