Mechery Louis Ouseppachan, widely recognized as Ouseppachan, is a renowned Indian film composer and singer, primarily active in the Malayalam film industry.
Born on September 13, 1955, in Ollur, Thrissur, Kerala, India, Ouseppachan comes from the Mechery house, with his parents being Mathiri Paliakkara and Louis.
Ouseppachan's music career began as a violinist in various music troupes, including Voice of Trichur, and he even had the opportunity to accompany renowned playback singer Madhuri in her concerts.
He later became the violinist under the guidance of music director Paravoor Devarajan master.
Ouseppachan's first work in the film industry was the film Eenam, for which he set the background score. He also composed additional background music for the film Aaravam (1979),in which he played the role of a fiddle player.
However, Kathodu Kathoram (1985),directed by Bharathan, is considered Ouseppachan's debut as a composer. His work in the film was widely acclaimed, with three songs becoming super hits. The immense use of violin in these songs was notable, considering Ouseppachan's own expertise as a violinist and the fact that the film's protagonist, played by Mammootty, was also a violinist.
Subsequently, Ouseppachan went on to compose music for over 120 films, as well as songs for the non-commercial Hindi film Freaky Chakra, directed by V.K. Prakash, and background scores for various other Hindi films, including those directed by Priyadarshan.
Throughout his illustrious career, Ouseppachan has received numerous accolades, including one National Film Award and three Kerala State Film Awards, for his numerous film soundtrack albums and background scores.
