Biography

Born in 1962 in the vibrant city of Tehran, Shahbazi is a highly accomplished filmmaker who graduated from the prestigious Tehran Cinema College with a degree in filmmaking.

As he began his journey in the early 1980s, Shahbazi started writing short stories and directing short films, honing his craft and laying the foundation for his future success.

Before making his mark on the big screen, Shahbazi edited several films and directed an impressive 12 short films, showcasing his versatility and creative range.

It was in 1997 that he made his debut feature film, MOSAFERE JANOUB, a milestone moment in his career that marked the beginning of his journey as a feature film director.

Since then, Shahbazi has continued to impress audiences and critics alike with his unique storytelling style and cinematic vision. His latest feature, Malaria, is a testament to his growth and evolution as a filmmaker.

His debut feature, as well as his second film, NAJVA (2000),has been screened at numerous festivals around the world, earning him international recognition and a slew of awards and accolades.

In 2002, his third film, NAFAS-E AMIGH, was selected for the esteemed Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival, where it received widespread critical acclaim, further solidifying Shahbazi’s reputation as a talented and innovative filmmaker.
