Patricia Cardoso is a renowned director whose illustrious career has spanned multiple mediums, including film and television. Her debut feature film, REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES, achieved immense commercial and critical acclaim, cementing its status as a landmark in American cinema. Cardoso's impressive directing credits include episodes of THE SOCIETY, QUEEN SUGAR, WILL TRENT, THE WATCHFUL EYE, and TALES OF THE CITY, as well as the pilot for HARLAN COBEN'S SHELTER on Amazon Prime, and the feature film EL PASEO DE TERESA, which boasted the largest box office for a woman director in Colombia.
As an anthropologist, archaeologist, and Fulbright scholar, Cardoso brings a unique perspective to her work, informed by her extensive academic background. Her anthropological approach guides her filmmaking, which is characterized by a deep understanding of human culture and behavior. Cardoso's numerous accolades include being the first Latinx woman director to have a film included in the Library of Congress's National Film Registry, as well as winning a Student Academy Award and a Sundance Audience Award.
A graduate of UCLA's film school, Cardoso has also held the position of director of Sundance's Latin American program for five years. In addition to her work as a filmmaker, she is a professor at UC Riverside and has previously taught at USC and UCLA. Cardoso is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, The British Film Academy, the Television Academy, and the Directors Guild of America.
