Biography

Patrick Mulcahey, a renowned script writer in the world of daytime television, was born in Syracuse and raised in Oswego, New York. He earned his degree from Yale University and began his writing career in October 1979, joining the team that launched Procter&Gamble productions' soap opera Texas in 1980.

Mulcahey's early success was marked by two Writer's Guild Awards nominations, but the show's cancellation led him to switch to CBS and join the writing team for Guiding Light in 1980. Under the guidance of acclaimed head writer Douglas Marland, Mulcahey received his first Daytime Emmy Award and co-wrote the pilot for ABC's Loving in 1983.

In 1984, Mulcahey found a new home on the critically acclaimed soap opera Santa Barbara, where he remained for seven years and earned two Writers Guild Awards and a second Daytime Emmy Award. During this period, he developed a reputation for his sharp dialogue, which became a hallmark of the series.

After leaving Santa Barbara, Mulcahey returned to Guiding Light in 1992, rising from script writer to associate head writer and eventually co-head writer in 1994. This period is often referred to as the show's "last golden era."

In 1999, Mulcahey joined the writing team of General Hospital, where he created the character of Carly Spencer with writers Wendy Riche and Robert Guza Jr. He won another Emmy and WGA award before leaving the show in 1999.

Mulcahey remained in retirement until 2005, when he was lured back to television by head writer and executive producer Bradley Bell to join the writing staff of The Bold and the Beautiful. He initially served as a regular script writer before being promoted to storyline consultant in 2008.

Throughout his career, Mulcahey has been recognized with numerous awards and nominations, including seven Emmy nominations and one win. He has also been a vocal civil rights spokesperson in the San Francisco area, where he has lived for over 30 years.
