Paul Welsh has held the esteemed position of historian for Elstree Studios since the 1970s, and for an impressive 37 consecutive years, he has authored a weekly column for the local press, focusing on the subject matter of the studios.
Notably, Welsh was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1997, in recognition of his tireless efforts in chairing an eight-year campaign to save Elstree Studios from 1988 to 1996.
Additionally, Welsh served as the chair of Elstree Studios Partnership Ltd from 1996 to 2000, during which period the studio underwent a comprehensive reopening, refurbishment, and expansion.
Welsh's extensive knowledge of the studios in Elstree & Borehamwood, which he has accumulated since his first childhood visit in 1960, has been instrumental in his role as chair of Elstree Screen Heritage.
As a result of his unwavering dedication and commitment to preserving the legacy of Elstree Studios, the University of Hertfordshire honored Welsh with an honorary Master of Arts degree.
