Pedro Ortiz, also known as Pirata Morgan, is a renowned Mexican professional wrestler and wrestling trainer, renowned for his ring name inspired by the infamous 16th-century pirate Captain Henry Morgan. With a career spanning over four decades, Ortiz has made a significant impact in the world of lucha libre.
Ortiz made his professional wrestling debut in 1979 and has since worked for several prominent promotions, including Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL),Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA),International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG),and the Mexican Independent circuit. He has been an integral part of the Mexican wrestling scene for over 20 years, leaving AAA in early 2009 after a decade-long stint.
As a wrestler, Ortiz has been a member of the influential trio Los Infernales, alongside other notable wrestlers, and was part of the first Mexican National Trios Champions and CMLL World Trios Champions. He also founded the group Los Bucaneros, teaming up with family members who adopted a "Pirate" ring persona.
Ortiz's wrestling career has been marked by a notable injury, suffering a loss of his right eye during a match in 1981, which has led him to wear an eyepatch ever since. In late 2008, his sons Barba Roja and El Hijo de Pirata Morgan were cut from AAA, and in early 2009, he left the company, citing dissatisfaction with its direction.
Subsequently, Ortiz has continued to work on the Mexican Independent circuit and has made appearances for IWRG. He is part of an extensive wrestling family, including his brothers Verdungo and Hombre Bala, sister La Marqueza, and at least one brother who is not a professional wrestler.
Ortiz's children are also professional wrestlers, with his son Pirata Morgan Jr. and daughter Perla Negra following in his footsteps. Several of his nephews and a niece are also professional wrestlers, using the ring names Rey Bucanero, India Sioux, Hombre Bala Jr., and Corsario.
