Peter Denyer was born on August 20th, 1947, in Dartford, Kent, England. He embarked on his professional acting career at the tender age of 19, securing a role as the "3rd Workman" in "The Stirrings in Sheffield on Saturday Night" at The Playhouse in Sheffield in 1966.
Denyer's most iconic role remains that of the lovable but dim-witted "Dennis Dunstable" in the popular London Weekend Television comedy series Please Sir! (1968). The show revolved around a fictional South London comprehensive school, Fenn Street School, and the antics of the unruly school kids of 5C, their teachers, and parents. Please Sir! premiered on November 11th, 1968, and ran for four series, consisting of 53 episodes, with a comic strip adaptation featured in the 1970s children's magazine "Look In".
The series concluded in 1972, but a spin-off series, The Fenn Street Gang (1971),followed the kids of 5C as they transitioned from school to the workforce. Although it lasted for two series, it failed to match the original's popularity and was ultimately cancelled in 1973.
Denyer continued to enjoy television success alongside his peers, appearing in various shows such as Dixon of Dock Green (1955),Agony (1979),Dear John.... (1986),Emmerdale Farm (1972),The Bill (1984),and On the Up (1990). Over time, he shifted his focus from acting to writing, directing, and producing pantomimes.
Throughout his career, Denyer has been associated with notable showbiz personalities, including Barbara Windsor, Anita Dobson, Kate O'Mara, Toyah Willcox, Frank Finlay, and Robert Powell. Despite his success, Denyer has remained a bachelor and has been a resident of Gloucestershire for nearly 30 years.
